What to expect when you book an appointment with me

At your first consultation you will be asked about your current daily routine including job and sports specifics before discussing any treatment for injury. A full gait and posture analysis will take place before injury and pain specific assessment. Proprioception, muscle function tests and general health checks, such as blood pressure monitoring will be performed where needed. Treatment methods will be explained in full and the reasoning behind using them.

A form of massage that involves the manipulation of the soft tissues of the  body to correct  imbalances or trauma to allow the muscles to actively work as they should with many benefits to the body. Sports massage is not a ‘cosmetic’ or superficial ‘chill out’ treatment you’d find at a spa; it’s an intensive dose of focused, physical therapy schooled in the medically demonstrable study of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, administered by qualified professionals. It can materially help you to prevent injury, relieve muscle pain and increase mobility… and there are so many other benefits.

You DO NOT have to be an athlete to receive sports/deep tissue massage. Read about the benefits of this treatment on the Benefits page.

Used alongside massage therapy and also known as vacuum therapy, it is one of the oldest effective methods of releasing toxin build up within body tissues and organs.

Small vacuum vessels are placed on the area of treatment, lifting the skin up into the vessel, this in turn increases blood flow to the area whilst drawing impurities, dead tissues cells and toxins from the tissues to the surface promoting elimination. This treatment will leave marks that look like, but are not bruises, that fade over the subsequent days. They will vary in darkness indicating areas that require more treatment. Read about the benefits of this treatment on the Benefits page.

Hot Stones sports massage is a deep tissue treatment using heated basalt stones to relax the muscles. The heat from the stones can alleviate muscle tension where other techniques have been unable to. Hot stones has many benefits including;
-reduces physical, postural and emotional stress
-relaxes and relieves tension from muscles
-improves circulation
-reduces stress and anxiety
– highly beneficial for fibromyalgia and other chronic pain sufferers
– promotes relaxation and sleep

Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) is a popular treatment for myofascial restriction. IASTM uses specially designed instruments/tools to provide a mobilising effect to scar tissue and myofascial adhesions increasing range of movement. It can be used widely over many conditions with the following benefits being reported:
– helps increase collagen production
– relieves pain
– restores correct function
– increase speed of healing/recovery
– reduces inflammation
– improves mobility

Specific taping using a variety of tapes from EAB to KT tape to support recovery from injury during rehabilitation or to provide pain relief for chronic pain sufferers. Pre event/match taping also available.

Using both the Mulligans and Maitland techniques of MWM (mobilisation with movement) in order to improve client mobility caused by arthritis, joint injuries as well as relieving pain from muscle injuries, with the Maitland technique targeting back and neck pain.

The Mulligans technique is a form of Physical therapy with the aim of giving the client relief with a long-term plan to allow the client to maintain good mobility and prevent pain reoccurrence. This technique gets the client actively involved, with each technique used being followed up with at home exercises for the client to complete before the next session.

The Maitland technique uses both passive and accessory mobilisations of the spine to treat mechanical pain and stiffness. There are five grades to this technique dependant on the stability, irritability and nature of the spinal pain. The mobilisations create movement within the vertebrae reducing stiffness and making movement easier, this ease in movement subsequently reduces pain.

This safe and effective treatment can have amazing results on pain management and muscle function.

Trigger point dry needling is the invasive insertion either superficially or deep tissue, of a fine needle into the skin and muscle in order to relieve both local and referred pain. All needles are sterile single use and medical gloves are worn throughout treatment. Client comfort is ascertained during any treatments.

Available from 10th May 2021

Whether after injury, post-operative or pain management a tailormade, specific exercise, stretching and flexibility plan can be developed using a needs analysis to work alongside treatment in order to improve recovery time and prevent reccurrence.

About JLA

I’m Jo and I am very proud to have trained and qualified in a range of fully insured treatments to aid mobility and recovery from sports injury. I started out last year offering sports massage therapy as my primary service, whilst continuing my training in Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation at Inverness UHI. My passion lies in helping those suffering pain or reduced mobility by understanding the real cause of the symptoms. I won’t undertake any treatments until I have fully assessed each client and concluded on the most appropriate rehabilitation method(s). It gives me great pride to see the transformation in each person I treat as they progress along their rehabilitation or recovery journey. I am proud to have been appointed to both Clachnacuddin FC First Team and the Women’s Clachnacuddin Football Club back room staff to keep them injury free and in tip-top shape. You don’t have to be an athlete or sports person to need therapy though – I see people of all ages and endeavours who need my help to reduce pain or mobility restrictions from everyday tasks. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have by email or messaging so feel free to get in touch and I look forward to welcoming you to my clinic.

What people say?

Jo offers a highly professional and friendly service. You can tell she is really passionate and knowledgeable about what she does which makes a huge difference. I felt really comfortable with her from the first session for a running injury (which I haven't had again since). I cannot recommend her enough!

Jojo S

I had severe sciatic pain and was pretty much stuck on the couch for 6 weeks. I got 3 sessions of sports massage and coping therapy. This definitely aided and quickened my recovery and got me back on my feet. Would highly recommend.

Callum K

I highly recommend Jo, she has worked wonders on a 16 year old shoulder injury. Can honestly say that after only a few sessions, it has improved my mobility and drastically reduced the constant pain. Jo has talked me through my injury and explained everything that she does. The clinic is always clean, tidy and welcoming. I really can’t thank Jo enough for all she has done

Richard B
